Kristy, it is nice to hear from you. I'm looking forward to your new book.
Tell me about your newest book The All Souls Faire? The All-Souls Faire is a different sort of horror book that revels in our own inner sins that we as humans don't wish to face or acknowledge. Cecil Hicks is not afraid and even encourages the characters that come traipsing over his mountain to give into them with a little help from his famous shine that allows all inhibitions to disappear. Its based in the mountains of Alleghany Virginia where still if you look deep enough in the wood you can find traces of folk who still live like the characters of my book. Sometimes humorous, other times down right rude these characters will pull you into a world you knew existed but didn't want to admit to knowing.
How long have you been writing? Professionally I have been writing since 2004 under the pen name Rainey Moon, through poetry and short story work; however I have been writing stories and such since I was a little kid - without much purpose and just because I could was all the reason it took to get me going. I didn't start to use my abilities as a writer until I began my college career and wanted to gain extra money to attend. Beyond writing for what I feel like is considered 'pleasure' I have written professionally as a staff reporter for "The Hopewell News;" "The Progress Index" and "The Chester Village News " here in my home town and an editor of an online magazine back in early 2000's entitled "The Underground"where I interviewed and wrote about folks and such from the darker corners of the world.
Will you be doing any books signings when the book is released? Once the faire is over I will be doing a book signing tour. There will be dates announced on my website as we draw closer to the release date.
Tell me a little about Cecil? Cecil, in my eyes, is a charming character though he is filled with a wickedness most wouldn't embrace. I assure you he's no Jason or Freddy but a different sort of monster that lives within us all and I have a feeling you will either hate him for bringing out truths in you that you wish to remain secret or you will love him because he can bring those out in you.
Where did you come up with the idea for this character? Cecil was inspired from artwork that I seen done by Alchemy Gothic of England - he started as clearly as the piece I seen before my eyes but then grew to become his very own monster masterpiece, rightfully taking on a life of his own. As far as who he is, where he's from and the traits he possesses those ideals came from my time spent living in the Alleghany Mountains of Virginia where I had plenty of time to enjoy the flare of character possessed by good ole' mountain folk.
When will the book become available? The book will have it's own private launch October 28-29th at The All-Souls Faire Event to be held in Richmond VA. It's going to be a great masquerade party on Saturday night followed by Sunday Brunch with Authors, Artists, Film Makers and Musicians who wish to spend time with their fans while extending their reach to the East Coast. Word has it that old Cecil himself will be making an appearance. It will be here that I will sign the first copies of The All-Souls Faire before they actually hit the book stores so only those who come to the faire will have the chance to get a copy before everyone else.
Are there any plans to create a screenplay for one of your books? I would love to see old Cecil in his full glory upon the big screen - he's already coming to life in so many ways - that would just be the icing on the cake.
I would like to thank Kristy for taking the time to talk with me and I wish her the best in her continued success.
